Most parents with kids have an evening “routine.” We had entered into ours with Laney and it was story time, just before prayers and bed. I told her to pick a book and I suddenly found myself singing “Jesus Loves Me” (something we sing a lot). But she perked up, pointed toward her room, and took off running. She came back holding a book called “Jesus Loves Me.” The book begins with the song and then moves page-by-page through nuanced verses and pictures that apply to daily activities. I was so proud that when I sang the song, Laney knew where to look. The song for Laney was never far from its source. She knew where to find it.
My prayer for you today is that you will look to God when you see and hear those things that remind you of Him and His blessings toward you. If those blessings seem far away, look to His word and be reminded that God loves you. In the end, all it takes is doing what Laney does, singing “Jesus Loves Me,” and you’ll know.
By day the Lord commands his steadfast love, and at night his song is with me, a prayer to the God of my life. —Psalm 42.8 (NRSV)
