A favorite picture of mine. My grandmother holding my daughter. Generations are colliding in a bond of love that many people don’t get to experience. My grandmother has loved her children; she has loved her grandchildren; now she gives her love to her great-grandchildren. One family, sharing a blessing bigger than itself.
[F]or I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God,…showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments. (Exodus 20:5, 6 NIV)
The love of God didn’t start in the beginning. It was the beginning. The world was created out of love, a beautiful desire of God’s to share his glory with his creation. As Christians, our job is to welcome others into that glory, a blessing that God has made available through Jesus. The sharing of the glory, then, continues throughout the generations that will accept it.
Don’t just love, but love long. Extend the love of God to those who need family. Give the gift of family, especially to those without.
