The doctor told us, “When you eat, she eats; when you drink, she drinks.” The best way to teach her is to show her—to do things together. How else is she to know if she isn’t taught; and how else is she to see without someone to guide her? Ashley was showing Laney how to set up with her knees under her rather than simply laying on her belly (see the picture below). Yeah, I know, once she crawls she’ll be into everything. But the joy of watching her learn, discover, and grow is awesome!
10 Hear, my child, and accept my words,
that the years of your life may be many.
11 I have taught you the way of wisdom;
I have led you in the paths of uprightness.
12 When you walk, your step will not be hampered;
and if you run, you will not stumble. —Proverbs 4
There’s NO WAY for an unbelieving world to believe unless we model our belief, our faith. Do we really think that the world has any interest in being “Christian” if there is no one to show them? Who will teach them? Who will guide them? If we are to be the body of Christ, then we must do Christly things. If we are to help their unbelief, then we must show them what it means to believe.
Will you step up to the challenge and show other people how to speak; how to treat others in public and in private; how to attend a Bible study or engage in prayer? The world needs to know HOW to be Christian, O Christian. Rise to the challenge. Take up your cross and show them how to follow after Jesus. Get off your belly and up on your knees and teach them how to move.
