Whit’s End: We Need More Light

I was driving down the road and couldn't resist taking this shot. ??There's a spot on Highway 53 headed north, just past where Highway 211 connects that is perfect for skyline viewing. ??Yesterday, the light was pouring through the clouds, rays bleeding through the thick clouds. ??There was no way my camera phone was going to pick it all up. ??But I was inspired in the moment, encouraged because, as the light hit me and the warmth poured into the car, I heard myself saying, "We need more light."

We get cabin fever during the Winter; holed up inside the house with all the rain and lack of sunshine can really get you down. ??It's a proven fact that sunshine helps with depression and that vitamin D from the sun's rays bolster and help maintain our immune systems. ??Face it, we need more light.

Spiritually, the same couldn't be more true. ??As we speak, the world is teetering on the balance beam of loyalty. ??Violence and self-centeredness have become twin kings, vying for our interest and commitment, while the Church is trying so very hard to bring us all together, united in a kingdom of light. ??We need more light. ??We are living in dark times and because the eyes of our hearts have become accustomed to the darkness we do not see just how bad things are. ??We hurt in the midst of??tragedy??and yet we fail to rise above the darkness and break through the clouds where the light is eternal, ever-shining and always there.

We need more light…and I know where we can find it. ??

"Again Jesus spoke to??them, saying, ???I am??the??light??of??theworld. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have??the??light??of??life.??? ??-John 8.12

There are a lot of 'light' verses but this one stressed the point we must seek and accept, that Jesus IS the light. ??All the goodness, the grace, the forgiveness, and the hope is found IN Jesus. ??Not with him, around him, or beside him, but IN him. ??Communion with Christ is oneness with God.

YouTube this song for a better understanding, "In the Light" by DC Talk. ??The chorus line says,

I wanna be in the light, as you are in the light
I wanna shine like the stars in the heavens.
O, Lord, be my light, and be my salvation,
'Cause all I want is to be in the light.??

IN the light. ??Got it? ??And remember, we need more light.
