This Sunday, many United Methodist churches will be celebrating “World Communion Sunday.” This is a bold and beautiful chance for each of us to remember two very important things, 1) the importance of Holy Communion, and 2) the connectedness of each of our denominations worldwide. As the Church, we are known as “the body of Christ.” What we must understand is that our lives are intimately connected. Christ’s body is made up of each of our communities and our unique giftedness. That body is nurtured through grace–grace that is offered in a variety of ways, but most powerfully and explicitly through our gathering at the Lord’s table for Holy Communion.
I hope that you’ll take the opportunity to take of Holy Communion this Sunday–no matter your tradition–remembering that it is God’s grace that not only connects us but nurtures “the Body.” Be blessed this week!
