I was outside this evening, walking around the backyard and enjoying the evening sun hitting the trees. Of course I had my camera and was looking for birds. The wind blew through the leaves and the sound brought a sort of peace to me. I’ve needed that recently–a reminder of peace and what it means to stop and breathe. I thought about Adam in the Garden of Eden, walking around, enjoying those same things; naming birds and other animals, figuring life out as he went.
There’s a lot that the Bible DOESN’T say about what life in the Garden was like. But, in all honesty, I’m kind of glad that the Bible doesn’t answer that question for us. It gives us the chance to step outside and feel the wind for ourselves. I believe there is a lot that God wants to reveal to us through our experiences. Not all of them have to be Mission-focused or Evangelistically oriented. So much…SO much of what God wants to do in our lives can and does come through the quiet alone times that we have in this life.
Like Jesus reminds his disciples in Mark 6.31, “Come away to a deserted place all by yourselves and rest a while.”
May God grant each of us a deserted place to rest a while. Have a blessed evening.
