The Living Room: The Inward Sign

The Living Room ??? 3.16.11
*no formal write-up, just my notes from tonight’s devotion

Luke 11.29-30
When the crowds were increasing, he began to say, ???This generation is an evil generation; it asks for a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of Jonah. For just as Jonah became a sign to the people of Nineveh, so the Son of Man will be to this generation.

???We’re always wanting a sign, and we often want it on our terms. Yet, God actually will provide the right signs for us, but we have to know God in a way that we can recognize those signs. ???We can easily get distracted by another part of the story, another part of an event, and miss the REAL message. In Jonah, we often focus on the big fish or on the fact that he ran from God. What we miss is that God had mercy on a people that were the enemies of his chosen people. Unexpected indeed. ???We look for our own sign, an outward miracle. But the sign of Jonah was an inward miracle, an unexpected sign of transformation. ???Know God and experience the inward miracle of transformation, a sign that only the Holy Spirit can show you.
